Locked Out of Your BMW?

Keys locked inside, a fob that quit or a trunk that won’t open. We sort it out where your BMW is parked.
BMW keys have changed a lot over the years, from the plain bladed key on an older 3 Series to the Display Key and the phone based Digital Key on newer cars. More technology hasn’t ended lockouts. Keys still get left on the passenger seat, and a fob with a dead battery opens nothing. We open X3s, X5s, 3 Series, 5 Series and everything in between, wherever the car happens to be parked.

We're known for excellence in mobile locksmithing.

What to Expect When You Call

Most people who call us are standing next to a locked car with a phone and not much else, so we keep the call short. Tell us the model, the year and where you are, and you get a price and a realistic arrival time before we hang up. A mobile technician comes to you, checks your government issued ID and then opens your BMW with automotive entry tools. We work Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm, and the number is (855) 588-0198.

Proper Entry Tools

Coat hangers and slim jims belong in the past. Our technicians use automotive entry tools made to open a door without bending the frame or tearing the weatherstripping.

Price Before We Drive Out

Tell us the BMW model, the year and where it's parked. You get a quote on the phone, and that's what you pay unless you ask us for extra work.

ID Check Up Front

Before the technician starts on the door, we ask to see a government issued ID. It takes a few seconds and keeps us from opening a car for someone it doesn't belong to.

Careful Around the Electronics

Modern car doors hold wiring, airbag sensors and window motors. We work slowly around them, and if your BMW calls for a different approach, we say so before we start.

No Hidden Fees

The quote covers the lockout. If we find something else once we're at the car, like a broken key stuck in the lock, we explain it and give you the price before doing anything about it.

Key Lost Instead of Locked In

If the key is gone for good, ask about a replacement when you call. We'll check what your BMW model needs, and if it's a key we can cut and program, the technician we send brings the equipment for it.

How We Open a Locked BMW

Lock picking tools
Most BMW fobs have a metal key that slides out, and the driver’s door lock sits under a cover at the end of the handle. If you open the door with that key, the alarm usually sounds as the door opens, which is normal. When the fob itself is locked inside, that key is out of reach, and that’s the situation we handle. Many BMW coupes and convertibles have frameless glass, and every BMW door carries a lot of wiring, so we set up slowly at the top of the frame.

Before You Call: Quick Checks for BMW Owners

Try the My BMW app. If remote services are active on your car, you can unlock it from your phone. Owners with Digital Key can also hold the phone or the NFC key card to the door handle. If neither is set up, check who has the spare key and how quickly they could get it to you.

BMW Trunk and Hatch Lockouts

Open car trunk in a field
Keys dropped in the trunk while you loaded the groceries, a hatch that won’t release, or a trunk lock that stopped turning. On most cars the quickest way in is through a door, then the trunk release or the fob. If your BMW has no inside release, we work on the trunk lock itself, and if that lock is damaged, we tell you what it needs before we touch it. Call (855) 588-0198 and tell us what’s going on.

How Our BMW Lockout Service Works

1. You Call Us

Call (855) 588-0198 and tell us where you are, what you drive and what happened. You get a quote and a realistic arrival time on the same call.

2. A Technician Heads Out

We send a mobile technician to the address you gave us. If anything changes on our side, we call to let you know.

3. ID Check First

Before any work starts, the technician asks to see a government issued ID.

4. Opening the Door

The technician looks over the door and lock, then opens your BMW with automotive entry tools, carefully and without forcing anything.

5. Keys Back in Hand

Once the door is open, you get your keys back and can check that everything inside is as you left it.

6. A Final Check

We make sure the locks on your BMW work as they should before we leave, and you pay the price you were quoted.

Common BMW Lockout Situations

No two lockouts are exactly alike, but most BMW calls come down to one of these.

Keys Locked in Your BMW

The keys are on the seat or in the cupholder and every door is locked. Smart key cars try to prevent it, but a fob in a bag or a door locked by hand can still get past that.

BMW Key Fob Not Working

A weak fob battery or a flat car battery can leave the buttons doing nothing. We open the door by hand, and from there you can check the fob battery or the car battery.

BMW Trunk Lockout

Keys in the trunk, or a trunk that won't release with the button or the fob. We usually get in through a door first and go from there.

Broken Key in a BMW Lock

An old or worn key can snap off in the door lock or the ignition. We extract the broken piece and let you know whether the lock or the key needs attention afterward.

Lost or Stolen BMW Key

If the key is gone, opening the door is only the first step. Mention it when you call so we can check what a new key for your model involves and send a technician equipped for it.

Lost or Damaged BMW Key?

What a replacement key involves depends on the year. Older cars take a plain cut key. Most cars built since the late 1990s have a transponder chip in the key, and many newer ones use a remote head key, a flip key or a smart key. The technician we send can cut and program many of these on site. If your model needs a key we can’t make on site, we’ll tell you on the phone rather than send someone out.

BMW Lockout Questions

It might. Some BMWs sound the alarm when a door opens without the fob being recognized. It stops once the car sees your key, and nothing is harmed by it. We’ll warn you before the door opens so it doesn’t catch you or the neighbors off guard.

Leave the broken piece where it is and don’t try to turn what’s left. We remove it with extraction tools, check that the lock still works, and talk you through a new key if you need one.

Our mobile technicians cover Maryland, Washington DC and Northern Virginia, working out from Silver Spring to Baltimore, Frederick and Prince William County. We also serve San Diego County in California.
