Losing every key to your car sounds like a tow truck and a dealer appointment. It doesn’t have to be. Master Locksmith makes replacement car keys on site for drivers in Silver Spring and the surrounding area, even when there’s no original left to copy. We cut the key from your car’s key code or decode it from the lock, then program the chip or remote so the car accepts it. You drive away with a working key, and on many cars we can erase the lost keys from the car’s memory so they no longer start it.
We’ll ask to see a government issued ID before we make a key. We work on most domestic and Asian models and many European ones, plus motorcycles, anywhere in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, DC, Baltimore and Northern Virginia. Call (301) 888-5152 between 8am and 8pm, Monday through Saturday.

Why Replace Your Car Key With Us

A dealer can make you a key too, but usually only after the car is brought to them and a key is ordered. With us, the key is made next to the car.

Made Where the Car Is

No tow and no waiting room. We cut and program the key in your driveway, at work, or in the lot where the keys went missing.

All Keys Lost Is Fine

We don't need an existing key to make a new one. We work from the car's key code or decode the door lock.

Lost Keys Erased

When keys are lost or stolen, we can remove them from the car's immobilizer memory on many models, so they won't start the car if someone finds them.

Remotes and Smart Keys Included

Remote head keys, flip keys and push button smart keys can be programmed on site for many vehicles, not only basic metal keys.

Know the Price Before We Start

Tell us the year, make and model and whether any working key exists, and we'll give you a clear price before we come out.

Car Key Types We Replace

Car keys have changed a lot over the years. These are the types we replace most often, and what each one involves.
Traditional metal key image

Traditional Car Keys

Plain metal keys with no chip, found on older cars and some work trucks. We cut these by code or from the lock, and they're usually the simplest to replace.

Transponder Keys

A chip in the head talks to the car's immobilizer. We cut the blade and program a new chip, since without it the engine won't start.

Flip Keys

The blade folds into the remote. We replace the whole unit, cut the blade and program both the chip and the remote buttons.

Key Head Remotes

Key and remote in one piece, common on many American and Japanese cars. We cut the blade and program both the starting chip and the remote.

Smart Keys

Proximity keys for push button start. We program a new smart key to your car and cut the emergency blade hidden inside it.

Fobik Keys

Used on many Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram models, these slide into a slot in the dash. We program replacements on site for most of these vehicles.

Laser Cut Keys

Also called sidewinder or high security keys, with a groove milled into the side of the blade. They need a special cutting machine, which we bring with us.

Standalone Remotes

Separate fobs that lock and unlock the doors. We program new ones and can remove lost remotes from the car's memory.

Need a spare rather than a replacement? Copying a key while you still have one is much easier and costs less. Our car key duplication page explains how it works.

Car Key Replacement Questions

Can you make a car key without the original?

Yes. We use your vehicle’s key code or decode the lock to cut a new key, then program it. All you need to show us is a government issued ID.

Do you make keys for European cars?

For many of them, yes. Some newer models, particularly from certain German brands, can only be keyed by the dealer. Tell us the year and model and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What happens to my lost keys?

On many cars we can remove lost keys from the immobilizer during programming, so they won’t start the car even if someone finds them.
